PGP U11 girls' football team win their first-ever tournament

On the International Day of the Girl, it seems fitting that we bring great news from the Parsons Green Prep U11 girls’ football team. Yesterday the girls took part in the U11 ISA football festival at Ascot, alongside 15 other schools. The festival is part of the FA’s strategy to double girls’ participation in football. The event included tournament matches, fun coaching masterclasses from elite clubs and the opportunity to meet professional footballers. In the matches, the girls reached the semi-finals and won their match on a penalty shootout. They then went on to win the final, also on a penalty shootout. It was their first tournament and, amazingly, their first-ever matches too. The school also won 10 tickets to any home Arsenal game – many thanks to Arsenal for this very kind present. Congratulations to star player Chloe (goalkeeper), our fantastic head of sport, Mr Will, Coach Steve from the Chelsea Foundation (who helps with sports lessons and runs the after-school Chelsea clubs superbly) and most of all the girls. Brilliant team effort!
