Our new playground
Welcome back to all our children, parents and staff and a special mention to our new joiners. We hope you had a lovely summer holiday and are ready for a very exciting Autumn term. The children are loving our new playground, from hopscotch on the squidgy floor to climbing all over the mighty Titan. You can read more about our excellent facilities here.
In the press
We are delighted to be a part of School House magazine’s feature on family run prep schools – we have had the same single proprietor since we opened in 2001. Thank you to School House magazine for including us. You can read all about it on our press page here.
Chef Douglas moves on
A huge thank you from the whole school to Chef Douglas from Thomas Franks, our in-school caterer. The school community wishes him the best of luck in his new role closer to home and to show our gratitude for all his amazing cooking. This has ranged from delicious meals for the children and staff every lunchtime to highly creative canapés at special events, wonderful end-of-term celebratory meals for the staff and even teaching the children about flavours and nutrition. His attention to detail and presentation has always been superb, too. It has been a delight to work with him and we will miss him. It’s always onwards and upwards at PGP so a big welcome to Chef Elena, who is also from Thomas Franks and has been working with Douglas. We are already loving our autumn lunchtimes! You can read about school lunches here.
Art Day
For Art Day we looked at the painting The Courtyard of a House in Delft 1658 by Dutch artist Pieter de Hooch. Each year group focused on a particular theme within the painting including architecture, sounds, textures and viewpoints. Reception went on a texture hunt around the school and created collages with the rubbings they fund and different materials. Year 1 created structures using lolly sticks. Year 2 used objects to print their buildings. Year 3 created tessellated patterns and printed leaves on top. To create 3D scenes Year 4 listened to a soundscape of the painting. Year 5 produced drawings showing through the window or door. Using Plaster of Paris, Year 6 created plaques. The pupils produced a fabulous array of artwork that can be seen displayed around the school. You can discover more about our art curriculum here.
